REPORTED ATTEMPT TO KILL CANTON CHIEF. (FROM QUE CORRESPONDENT.}
HONG-KONG, DEC. 30.
An unconfirmed report from Canton states that an unsuccessful effort has been made to assassinate Wang Ching- wei, chairman of the National Govern ment. The news is interpreted in some quarters as indicating the beginning of the anti-Russian revulsion, but it causes anxiety here because a large party from Hong-kong is at present being feted in Canton.
Nine Chinese merchants left for Canton to-day. They are authorized to arrange for a settlement of the strike and the boycott of Hong-kong.
